I have always cycled using regular sneakers and never realized the difference a pair of purpose build cycling shoes would make.
The Giro Deed Mountain Bike shoe fits slightly different than a regular pair of sneakers, they are a lot more rigid in all senses, from what you feel when you are putting them on to what you feel when you pull the tongue of the shoe before doing up the laces. At first I was not too happy with the stiffness I felt, until I actually rode the bike using them. Better grip and a more confident planting of my feet on the pedal. The stiffer sole also made for interesting support to the entire foot rather than just the ball of the foot with a regular sneaker.
It has been a couple of weeks of riding with the shoes and I am so glad I have them. I know that my feet are better planted on the pedals which translate to better control of where my feet are the confidence that they will not slip off the pedal when I change body position or weight on the feet.
